Cookie Policy

Last updated: 15 September 2026

This page explains how CourseIO uses cookies and similar technologies (like localStorage), and how you can control them.

What cookies are

Cookies are small files stored on your device. Websites also use similar browser storage, like localStorage, for the same kinds of purposes — remembering that you’re signed in, or what settings you prefer.

Strictly necessary

These keep CourseIO working and can’t be switched off — there’s no consent banner toggle for them because the site can’t function without them.

auth_token

localStorage · Until you sign out or it expires

Keeps you signed in between visits.

user, organization

localStorage · Until you sign out

Caches your account/organization info so the app loads faster.

courseio-app-store

localStorage · Persistent, until cleared

Remembers interface preferences, like whether the sidebar is collapsed.

courseio_cookie_consent

localStorage · Persistent, until cleared

Records the cookie choices you made in the consent banner so we do not ask again.

signup_email, signup_invitation_token

localStorage · Deleted when sign-up completes

Carries your details between the sign-up form and the email verification step.

Razorpay checkout cookies

Cookie · Set by Razorpay

Set by Razorpay's own checkout during payment — required to process your subscription securely.

Analytics (optional)

With your consent we use PostHog to understand how CourseIO is used — which pages people visit and which features they reach — so we can improve the product. Nothing from this category is set until you choose Accept all or switch analytics on under Manage preferences. If you later withdraw consent, analytics stops immediately and its identifiers are cleared. We do not use analytics data to build advertising profiles.

ph_<project>_posthog

Cookie + localStorage · 1 year, or until you withdraw consent · PostHog (EU cloud)

PostHog product analytics: an anonymous device id, the pages you visit and the product actions you take (for example creating a course or downloading an export). Autocapture and session recording are switched off.

Marketing (optional)

We don’t currently set any advertising or marketing cookies. The toggle exists so that if we ever add them, they will only load after you opt in — and this page will list them first.

Error reporting

If something breaks, the app sends an error report to Sentry so we can fix it. That report contains technical details (the page, the browser, the error) but sets no cookies and is not used to track you; passwords, one-time codes and tokens are removed before it is sent. See our Privacy Policy and subprocessors page.

Your choices

You can accept or reject optional cookies at any time using the button below (also in the footer of every page), or clear cookies and localStorage directly in your browser settings. Rejecting optional cookies doesn’t affect your ability to use CourseIO.
